We look forward every spring to seeing the maple sugaring start as it is a sign that springtime is not far away. Not too many producers use buckets anymore. Most of them use pipelines now and just hang a few buckets for nostalgia's sake. I can remember taking a thin sheet of ice off the top of the sap in the bucket and chewing on it. It had a slightly sweet taste but of course it takes hours of boiling that sap down to get maple syrup. The little church in the background just added to this country scene. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe print is made on acid free archival paper with archival inks. I always watch for this old timey way of collecting sap for boiling. It is a sure sign that spring is not long away when I see them. Now most collect their sap using long plastic tubing but when I see this scene it takes me back to a time when buckets were all they used. Maple trees are beautiful anyways and have so much character when they are mature. Their early blossoms before the leaves emerge provide nectar for many pollinators too and strong limbs for robins to nest on.
