Exploring some of the most important environmental and changing social issues of our times, "Riding the Float," uncovers behind the scenes true practices, unknown to most, that affect us all.
The touching love story of a young couple, Ben and Karen Carlisle, relates how their dream of living a rural life in northern Pennsylvania is challenged to the core. Something shocking and mysterious is happening on their farm and Ben and his brother-in-law Warren must become detectives to search out the reason.
They are forced to go up against powerful and popular local experts and authorities to get results. In their quest for answers they uncover an eye opening and frightening scheme to defraud towns, two states and the United States government, but is that enough? Will revealing that information help them save their family farm in the pristine countryside?
Can Ben and Karen still live out the dream they had planned for themselves and the family they hoped to have? And, can Melvin, a senior farmer hold on to his dream also, or must he give way to modern progress? Only time will tell. Read this fascinating story that shows how one determined person can change the world. Book is soft cover with 132 pages.
AUTHOR BIO:
Doris Wilbur is the author of three novels, "A Lenape Legacy," "Riding the Float," and "A Lenape Captive-Ahmeya." She lives at a small lake in rural New York State and writes about historical events and issues of our contemporary times. Her stories are infused with nature and give you a real sense of place while taking you on an adventure filled with challenges, humor, romance, and life altering choices.
Doris spent much of her career as a commercial artist and award winning watercolor artist. She was a public-school teacher also, but behind the scenes she always wrote. She has worked for newspapers, advertising agencies, school systems and has a fine art business.
She and her husband Jerry raised five children and have lived in rural New York State, the mountains of Pennsylvania, near Washington DC and in a small town in central Florida. She has worked in busy, congested large cities as well as living a peaceful country life.
Doris graduated summa cum laude from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania where she studied Creative Writing, Botany and Art Education. Now, she and her husband Jerry enjoy life at a private lake surrounded by woods and nature where she continues to write and paint.
